The biggest struggle I have in watching what I eat is when I go out with friends. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a healthy choice depending on the restaurant your going to or what everyone else is eating, but really the biggest problem is that I rationalize all my bad decisions. I always say to myself, it’s ok, you’re out with friends, this is a special occasion, go all out!

Even if I don’t rationalize it that way and insist to myself that I’m going to eat well and not overindulge it can be hard to stay in that frame of mind when everyone around you is doing otherwise. For example I went out last night and had a delicious dinner with friends. I had only one glass of one and boxed half my dinner. I thought I had done pretty well and then everyone suggested going to a bar. It was early and nobody wants to be the lame person who goes home early, so I said sure I’ll tag along, but I wasn’t planning on having anything else to drink. Once we got to the bar someone immediately offers to buy me a drink. I politely decline, but they’re insistent, so I think, fine, one beer. Then before I know if someone brings a pizza over to our table and I’m eating pizza, WHY?? I’m not even hungry, I just had dinner. I didn’t even want the beer and of course the pizza tastes good, but I don’t need, I’m not hungry and I’m not even sure I want it.

I know if I want to seriously lose some weight I can’t be good Sunday - Thursday and then go all out Thursday night and for the rest of the weekend. I won’t give up going out with friends but I certainly don’t have to eat and drink with wild abandon. What are some strategies you use when going out with friends? Do they work?

Hello everyone! This is my first post on this site but it is unfortunately not my first ever weight loss/health blog. I’ve attempted two others in the past. The first one was supposed to be a blog of my running, however once I stopped running there was nothing to blog about. My second blog was supposed to be a general fitness blog. It was on a site geared towards fitness/health but I kept getting obnoxious comments from people (okay, men) about how I looked, what they’d like to do with me, asking me to go out with them, etc. For the record, I am not interested in going out with anyone, I love hearing positive feedback and encouragement but I don’t really need to hear specifics about how you enjoy a certain part of my anatomy. So obviously that was a bit discouraging and I eventually just stopped blogging on there altogether. They say the third time’s the charm, so hopefully that holds true!

I think my goals are pretty modest. I’m 5′1″ and I currently weigh 131lbs. This is a bit heavy for me, I’m usually in the 125 - 128 range, but I’d like my weight to be around 115. I really just want to focus on eating healthy and getting more exercise. I’m not in terrible shape now but I’m certainly not in the best shape I could be in and I’d like to work on that. I don’t really have a specific plan at the moment, but I’m working on it! I’m on here to record my progress and also to give me some accountability. I hope I can get some encouragement and support on here and give the same in return! Hopefully this will be the blog that sticks and the attempt that works!
